About
Juan Bertoldi
Founder & Consulting Director · Insights for Value

I started my career at Accenture in Buenos Aires, spending a decade in strategy consulting across Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region — including several years based in Sydney. That grounding in rigorous analysis and large-scale transformation shaped how I think about strategy.

From there I moved into the international development sector — first as Quality Assurance Director for World Vision's Southern Africa region, based in Lusaka, Zambia, where I led performance measurement and strategy implementation across nine national offices. Then to New York, where I spent four years as Senior Advisor in World Vision's Global Office of Strategy, contributing to the organisation's first-ever global strategy across 90 countries and 40,000 people.

Before launching i4V, I spent two years at SYPartners in New York — a transformation consultancy at the intersection of strategy, leadership, and design.

Since 2019, I have run i4V as an independent practice — working with INGOs and non-profits at the moments that matter most. I am based in Spain and work globally, combining remote with periodic in-person sessions. I work in English and Spanish, with intermediate French and Portuguese.

Where I can help
Most clients come to me at one of six moments.
Click on the challenge that matches where you are. We'll show you how i4V has helped organisations navigate the same moment.
🗺️
We need a new strategy — one our team will actually own and implement.
You're entering a new cycle, facing significant change, or the current plan is no longer fit for purpose.
⚙️
We have a strategy. Now we need to turn it into a plan the organisation can actually execute.
Strategic priorities that need to become documented initiatives — with clear goals, measures, ownership, and sequencing.
🤝
We need to build the systems and frameworks that connect strategy to measurable results.
Business models, KPIs, measurement frameworks, or engagement approaches that exist in fragments — but lack coherence, consistency, or a clear link to strategic outcomes.
🔬
We want to understand what our current strategy has and hasn't achieved.
End of cycle, donor requirement, or internal pressure to assess honestly before deciding what comes next.
We need to redefine our identity or vision — and align diverse stakeholders around it.
Alliance or network facing existential questions, or an organisation that has outgrown its mandate — with board, leadership, or country offices holding different views.
💡
We want to design new business models or find innovative approaches to deliver on our mission.
Market-based solutions, public-private partnerships, social enterprise models, or new revenue streams that need to be prototyped, documented, and prepared for scale.

Strategy Review & Evaluation
An honest assessment that opens the door to the next chapter
We structure the review around three diagnostic layers: results achieved, organisational readiness, and depth of strategic buy-in. The output is not just a report — it's the foundation for a better next strategy.

Strategy Planning & Implementation
From strategic priorities to a plan the organisation can own and execute
A strategy document is not an execution plan. We bridge the gap — translating priorities into well-documented initiatives with clear goals, measures of success, ownership, and sequencing. Where the organisation needs it, we also design the strategy management function itself: the roles, routines, and infrastructure that keep delivery on track over time.

Vision & Identity
Redefining what an organisation is for — and what it should become
When the question goes deeper than strategy — to identity, value proposition, or the fundamental model of the organisation — we create the space and process for leaders to answer it together. The result is shared ownership, not a consultant's recommendation.

Business Model Design & Innovation
Designing, documenting, and preparing new business models for scale
When organisations move beyond traditional programming into market-based solutions, public-private partnerships, or social enterprise, the challenge shifts from "what works?" to "how do we systematise and scale it?" We help prototype, document, and build the operational infrastructure for innovative models to travel.
1
Review existing models, prototypes, and lessons learnt
2
Engage with implementation teams across geographies
3
Systematise the methodology — process, tools, and templates
4

Private Sector Engagement
A consistent framework for engaging business — from prospecting to measuring results
Most organisations have pockets of good private sector engagement and no shared language for talking about it. We design the frameworks, maturity models, and measurement tools that turn scattered efforts into a coherent approach — and make the results visible.

Maturity assessment across country offices or units
2
Benchmarking against peer organisations

Methodology
How I work
Five principles that shape every engagement — from the first conversation to the final Board presentation.
01
Diagnose before prescribing
Every engagement begins with a structured diagnosis — external context, ecosystem mapping, internal capability, stakeholder landscape. We do not arrive with a predetermined answer. The challenge has to be earned through evidence before the framework can be built.
02
Name the challenge clearly
Between diagnosis and strategy, we name the central challenge: the critical choice or obstacle the organisation must address for the strategy to work. This is the hardest part. It is also where most strategies go wrong — by skipping it.
03
Build ownership, not dependency
The process is designed so that clients own the strategy — not us. We facilitate, synthesise, and sharpen. But the decisions are made by the people who will implement them. A strategy that isn't owned is a document. A strategy that is owned is a commitment.
04
Deliver, don't just facilitate
We produce the deliverables. Strategic frameworks, Board narratives, implementation roadmaps, operating model designs. We write, design, and present — not just coordinate. The output is Board-ready and ready to use.
05
Human-led, AI-enabled
Leveraging AI tools to expand consulting capabilities and accelerate delivery. From research synthesis to document production, AI amplifies what an experienced consultant can do — without replacing the judgement, facilitation, and relationship skills that make strategy work.

Client Voice
What clients say
Unsolicited testimonials from senior leaders across multiple engagements.
Juan worked effectively with internal and external stakeholders — he was able to conceptualise the ideas presented by the regional network and the regional leadership in a clear, strategic and meaningful way. We were able to see the value added from Juan, and the final product was well accepted. It was developed in a collaborative way and because of that it has been an important step forward for our network in the region.

Juan was instrumental to achieving our results. He helped clarify the objectives of the project, listened carefully to key staff and together made adjustments to the plan. This buy-in was critical to the success. As facilitator, Juan was able to bring all the pieces together in one piece — helping to see the interlinkages between them.
